The Julián Alvarez saga between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid has erupted once again after Joan Laporta’s recent comments turned the transfer dispute into a public confrontation, with the Madrid club responding firmly and making its position on a potential move to Barcelona absolutely clear.
Laporta had confirmed that Barcelona remain interested in signing Alvarez, explaining that the Catalan club’s offer would remain on the table until the end of the transfer window and that Barcelona wanted Atlético’s approval to complete the deal.
The Barcelona president also stressed that his club respects Atlético Madrid and its leadership, while making it clear that Barcelona would continue trying to sign the Argentine forward if Atlético decided to open the door for his departure.
However, Atlético Madrid’s response was considerably more forceful. Spanish reports quoted sources within the club as insisting that their position is now completely clear and that selling Alvarez to Barcelona is not an option under any circumstances.
“The player is being presented as the victim, but the only victim in the Julián case is Atlético Madrid. They have harmed us economically and socially, and there is a zero percent chance of selling him to Barcelona.”
Atlético’s frustration reportedly goes beyond simply rejecting Barcelona’s proposal. The Madrid club has stressed that the issue is no longer about money, but has become a matter of the club’s dignity, reflecting how dramatically the situation surrounding Alvarez has developed.
