Dominik Livaković and Barcelona — the Croatian goalkeeper has expressed his immense happiness after completing his move to the Catalan club, describing his arrival as a special moment in his career and a dream come true for a player who grew up watching Barcelona.
Barcelona officially announced the signing of Livaković from Fenerbahçe on Thursday, with the goalkeeper putting pen to paper on a contract that runs until June 30, 2030.
Speaking in his first comments after arriving at the club, Livaković spoke enthusiastically about the atmosphere he has encountered at Barcelona, while highlighting the warm welcome he received from the club’s senior figures.
“It’s really great. It’s a beautiful and big club, and the people are very kind: the president, the vice-president, Deco and Bojan… It’s really great to be here,” Livaković said.
The Croatian goalkeeper explained that being at Barcelona carries a particularly personal significance for him, considering the journey he has made since beginning his football career in Zadar, his hometown, before moving to Zagreb and representing Dinamo Zagreb.
“Just being here is really great for me, as a young man from Zadar, my city, and then Zagreb, Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian club. It’s really great,” he added.
Livaković also made no secret of his longstanding admiration for Barcelona, acknowledging that the club had been a major part of his generation’s football memories since childhood.
“It’s always difficult to say because all these clubs are very big clubs, but of course Barcelona is the most popular club and it’s an incredible club,” he said.
He then reflected on how Barcelona had captured the imagination of young football fans long before they could ever imagine playing for the club themselves.
“Since we were kids, we have watched Barcelona and looked at the players who play here on the biggest stage and at the biggest clubs,” Livaković explained.
The Croatian goalkeeper also discussed the Camp Nou, one of the most iconic stadiums in world football, expressing his excitement at eventually seeing the renovated ground fully completed.
“The first time, maybe the impression will be huge, but of course Camp Nou is one of the most special stadiums in the world, so of course we are all waiting for the work to be finished and for it to be fully ready one day,” he said.
Livaković joins Barcelona after a career that has included spells with Dinamo Zagreb and Fenerbahçe, as well as extensive international experience with Croatia.
For the 31-year-old goalkeeper, however, the move represents much more than another chapter in his professional career. His first words at Barcelona underline the personal significance of joining a club he grew up watching and admiring before eventually becoming part of its story.
