There is a small detail that will appear on the shirts of some Barcelona players in the Champions League this season, but it could become an unforgettable memory in the careers of two of the club’s young talents. And everything could come down to one decision during Barcelona’s upcoming clash with Feyenoord.
Interestingly, this has nothing to do with a change to Barcelona’s kit or a new club-specific design. Instead, it is a new UEFA badge being introduced for the first time this season, and no player will receive it without actually stepping onto the pitch in the competition.
Barcelona are preparing to face Feyenoord in the Champions League, with two of their young players potentially set to make their European debuts: Hamza Abdelkarim and Brian Farinas.
According to the report, 18-year-old Abdelkarim and 20-year-old Farinas are eligible to receive a new badge introduced by UEFA to commemorate players making their first appearance in the Champions League.
The badge is called the Champions League Debut Patch. It is a new initiative introduced at the start of the 2026-27 season, designed to commemorate a player’s first appearance in Europe’s premier club competition.

For Barcelona, Abdelkarim is registered in the club’s main Champions League squad, while Farinas is included in the second squad as an academy player.
If either player features against Feyenoord, whether they start the match or come on as a substitute, the blue patch will be placed on the existing Champions League badge on the sleeve of their shirt.
But the story does not end with simply wearing the patch.
After the match, the patch will be removed from the shirt worn by the player during his debut. It will then be authenticated and paired with a unique trading card produced by Topps, before the card is signed by the player himself.
As a result, a Champions League debut for either Abdelkarim or Farinas could become a rare piece of memorabilia connected to one of the most significant moments at the beginning of their European careers.
The initiative is not limited to the duo, either. Several other Barcelona youngsters could also receive the patch if they make their Champions League debuts in the future.
Among the names mentioned in the report are J. P. Bisiou, Ibrahima Tonkara, Jordi Besquier, as well as goalkeepers Eider Aller and Iker Rodriguez. Any of them could receive the patch if they make their first appearance in the competition.
For Abdelkarim and Farinas, the first challenge will be earning an opportunity to feature against Feyenoord. But if they manage to take that step, their Champions League debuts will be more than just fleeting appearances in Europe’s elite competition — they could also become officially documented moments and unique pieces of football memorabilia.
