How to use the stat sheet
- Open Team and roster at the bottom and enter your players, one per line with the jersey number first, for example
23 Jordan Lee. Press Save roster. Up to 15 players fit. - During the game, tap the player, then tap what they did. The player stays selected, so two free throws in a row are just two taps on FT made or FT miss.
- Watch the box score fill in live, with team totals at the bottom. A wrong tap? Undo removes the last entry.
- After the game, Export CSV for a spreadsheet or Print box score. Everything is saved in your browser, so a reload at halftime does not lose the stats.
Prefer paper? Print blank stat sheet gives a landscape page with your roster down the side and wide boxes for tally marks: 2PT, 3PT and FT made and attempted, offensive and defensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers, fouls and points. With no roster saved, the rows print empty.
What each stat means
- PTS – points: 2 for each 2-point basket, 3 for each three, 1 for each free throw made.
- FG – field goals made-attempted, all 2PT and 3PT shots together (free throws are not field goals). "5-11" means 5 made from 11 shots.
- 3P and FT – three-pointers and free throws, made-attempted.
- OREB / DREB / REB – rebounds after your own team's miss (offensive) or the opponent's miss (defensive), and their total.
- AST – assist: the pass that leads directly to a made basket.
- STL – steal: a defender takes the ball away, by picking off a pass or taking it off the dribble.
- BLK – block: a defender deflects a shot attempt. The shooter still gets a missed attempt.
- TO – turnover: losing the ball to the other team without a shot, such as a bad pass, traveling or a stolen ball.
- PF – personal fouls charged to the player.
The percentage formulas
FG% = FG made ÷ FG attempted × 100
3P% = 3PT made ÷ 3PT attempted × 100
FT% = FT made ÷ FT attempted × 100
PTS = 2 × 2PT made + 3 × 3PT made + FT made
A player with no attempts has no percentage, so the sheet shows a dash rather than 0%. Percentages are rounded to one decimal place, as most box scores do.
Worked example
Jordan makes 3 two-pointers and misses 3, makes 2 threes and misses 3, and goes 3 for 4 at the line. That is:
- Field goals: 3 + 2 = 5 made from 6 + 5 = 11 attempts, so FG 5-11 and FG% = 5 ÷ 11 × 100 = 45.5%.
- Threes: 3P 2-5, 3P% = 2 ÷ 5 × 100 = 40.0%.
- Free throws: FT 3-4, FT% = 3 ÷ 4 × 100 = 75.0%.
- Points: 2 × 3 + 3 × 2 + 3 = 15.
Add 2 offensive and 4 defensive rebounds and the line reads 6 REB. If teammate Sam goes 2-2 from the floor and 0-2 at the line, the team totals are 19 points on 7-13 shooting, 7 ÷ 13 = 53.8%.
Coaches often add effective field goal percentage, which gives a three 50% more credit: (FG made + 0.5 × 3PT made) ÷ FG attempted. For Jordan that is (5 + 1) ÷ 11 = 54.5%, a better picture of a shooter who takes many threes.
Tips for keeping stats
- Use two people in a fast game: one calls the play, one taps. Rebounds and assists are the stats most often missed.
- Check against the scoreboard at each break. If your team points differ from the official score, a basket was missed or entered for the wrong player.
- Be consistent about assists and steals over a season; agree on a standard with whoever else keeps stats.
How we tested it
We wrote automated tests for the stat code and ran them with Node. They replay the worked example and check Jordan's line (15 points, FG 5-11 = 45.5%, 3P 2-5 = 40.0%, FT 3-4 = 75.0%, 6 rebounds) and the team totals (19 points, 7-13 = 53.8%). Other checks: no attempts shows a dash, 1 of 3 shows 33.3% and 2 of 3 shows 66.7%; 200 random games always give points = 2 × 2PT made + 3 × 3PT made + FT made and rebounds = offensive + defensive; undo removes only the last entry; roster lines with or without a "#" are read correctly and capped at 15; and the CSV export has the right header, player rows and totals row.
Frequently asked questions
How many fouls before a player fouls out?
Five personal fouls in high school (NFHS rules) and college, six in the NBA. Each player button shows the foul count once a player has one, so you can warn the coach early. Check your league's rules: some youth leagues use their own limit.
Should a missed shot that was blocked count as a field goal attempt?
Yes. Record a missed shot for the shooter and a block for the defender. A blocked shot is still a field goal attempt, and if it was a three-point try, it is a missed 3PT attempt too.
What if the foul shot is part of an and-one?
Enter the made basket first (2PT or 3PT made), then the free throw as made or missed. A player fouled on a missed shot gets free throws but no field goal attempt, so enter only the free throws.
Can I track both teams?
The sheet tracks one team at a time, which is what most coaches and parents need. To keep simple numbers for the opponent, add a roster line such as "0 Opponent" and tap their scores to it.
Can I open the stats in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Export CSV downloads the box score with one row per player and a team totals row. Open it in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets to keep season totals.
