Nico Williams sends final message to Barcelona and surprise response from Laporta

It was strongly confirmed this summer that Barcelona’s management failed to secure the highly anticipated signing of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams during the current summer transfer window, which was aimed at bolstering their attacking line. Bilbao was adamant that their star player would not be leaving this summer, insisting he would remain with the team until at least next season, despite Barcelona’s strong interest.

According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, Nico Williams made a request to Barcelona officials, including President Joan Laporta, to wait until next summer to sign him permanently. Williams expressed that he couldn’t leave Bilbao during the current transfer period and would stay until the following summer. He also made it clear that he has no intention of joining Paris Saint-Germain, as his strong desire is to play for Barcelona.

The newspaper pointed out that Nico’s request isn’t surprising given Bilbao’s insistence on keeping him for another season. However, some reports suggest that this scenario might not be accurate. In response to inquiries about Williams, Laporta allegedly remarked, “We don’t need him,” which some interpreted as the player having rejected Barcelona’s offer outright, rather than simply postponing it.
