Al-Khelaifi offers Barcelona star more than 20 times his salary to sign with Paris Saint-Germain

Barcelona continues its search to strengthen its squad to compete strongly in all tournaments in the upcoming season under the leadership of German coach Hans Flick. The club has already secured the signing of Dani Olmo, the German star from Leipzig and a midfielder for the Spanish national team, marking the first acquisition for the Catalan team in the current transfer market.

In a surprising turn, as reported by the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is preparing to offer a lucrative contract to Firmin, offering a salary 20 times higher than his current earnings at Barcelona. Firmin’s current salary at Barcelona is about €250,000 annually, while PSG is putting forward a proposal of €5 million annually—a substantial financial upgrade for the young player, who, despite being one of the lowest-paid in the Barcelona squad, has performed well beyond his current pay.

The newspaper also notes that PSG’s offer isn’t just about the money. Luis Enrique, who is well-acquainted with Spanish football and has a sharp eye for young talent, sees Firmin as a future cornerstone for PSG and is prepared to offer him a significant role right from the start, something he has yet to fully achieve at Barcelona.

Aware of PSG’s and other clubs’ interest, Barcelona is moving quickly to renew Firmin’s contract. The objective is clear: to secure the young talent and ensure his future with the club. This includes not only raising his salary to reflect his performances but also increasing his release clause, which currently stands at €400 million, with a potential increase to €1 billion, similar to what Pedri, Balde, Ronald Araujo, Lamine Yamal, and Gavi have.

Despite the tempting offers from Paris, Barcelona remains confident that Firmin’s loyalty to the club and the sporting project being developed under Hansi Flick will outweigh financial incentives. Deco, the club’s director of football, has already met with the player’s agent to expedite negotiations, aiming to keep Firmin in the Barcelona shirt for many more years.
