Hansi Flick asks Laporta and Deco to sign an urgent deal before the summer transfer window closes

The injury to Andreas Christensen, which will sideline him for one to two months, has raised concerns at Barcelona. Hansi Flick, recognizing the critical state of the defense, has urgently requested reinforcements for the backline. His primary goal is to secure a full-back who will allow Jules Kounde to return to his preferred central defense position, which Flick believes is crucial for the team’s success this season.

According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Flick made an urgent call to Deco and Joan Laporta, emphasizing the immediate need for defensive reinforcements. The German coach made it clear that signing a full-back is essential, not only to replace Christensen temporarily but also to ensure Kounde can play in central defense, thereby strengthening the overall defensive structure.

The newspaper further mentions that while there aren’t many options available, one viable candidate is Marc Popel from Almeria. The young full-back impressed last season, and the coaching staff believes he could adapt quickly to the demands of a bigger club like Barcelona. However, the option that excites the club the most is Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese player previously demonstrated his talent and versatility during his time at Barcelona, making him an ideal fit for the team. Nonetheless, his high cost and competition from other clubs make his acquisition challenging.

In response to Flick’s urgency, Deco and Laporta have intensified their efforts to complete a deal as quickly as possible. However, the club’s financial limitations and the need to free up wages add an extra layer of complexity to the process.
