The Catalan newspaper “Sport” reported that Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has given crucial advice to the team’s coach, Hans Flick, during the final hours of the current summer transfer window. Iniesta’s guidance comes amidst the crisis caused by the injury of young player Marc Bernal, which left Barcelona needing a strong replacement in that position to continue competing effectively.

Iniesta advised Barcelona to consider selling Dutch player Frenkie de Jong. Although de Jong is a talented player with great skills, Iniesta believes his level does not align with Barcelona’s current aspirations. He suggested that selling him might be the best option for the club.

Furthermore, Iniesta recommended that Barcelona sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who has proven himself as one of the best midfielders in the Euro 2024 Championship. Iniesta thinks Ruiz could be an ideal replacement for players dealing with injuries or those who may leave the club soon.

According to Iniesta, Fabian Ruiz could fill the gap left by young Marc Bernal’s long-term injury and potentially offer a performance that matches or even exceeds that of Ilkay Gundogan, who recently departed the club. Iniesta argues that Ruiz is a much better option than Gundogan, making him the most suitable candidate to strengthen Barcelona’s midfield in the coming phase.

The newspaper added that Paris Saint-Germain’s coach Luis Enrique is very interested in signing Frenkie de Jong. Therefore, he would likely be open to a swap deal with Barcelona involving Fabian Ruiz.
