Emergency solution: Ancelotti’s surprise right-back to replace Carvajal

The Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, is faced with the challenge of addressing Dani Carvajal’s prolonged absence, as the defender is expected to miss almost the entire season. Lucas Vázquez is currently the only available alternative, though he is originally a winger who has adapted to the right-back position. While Vázquez has demonstrated solid performances in the role, Ancelotti seeks a more reliable option, given that he doesn’t fully trust Vázquez for the long haul, especially with the season still ahead.

According to reports from the Spanish newspaper *Marca*, Ancelotti is exploring a creative internal solution by considering moving Eder Militao to right-back. The 26-year-old has previous experience playing in this position for Brazil, making him a potential candidate to fill Carvajal’s role in defense.

If this option is pursued, Aurelien Tchouameni could see more time in defense, especially while David Alaba recovers from his cruciate ligament injury. *Marca* noted that this decision would provide additional cover for the defense as Ancelotti navigates the long season ahead.

Carvajal, meanwhile, is going through one of the toughest periods of his career. Despite being at the peak of his professional life, he suffered this significant setback, with his recovery expected to take 8 to 10 months before he can rejoin the team. Football, as *Marca* remarked, can be unforgiving at times.
