Barcelona not surprised by former starlet’s struggles since summer departure

This past summer, promising La Masia striker Marc Guiu departed FC Barcelona to join Premier League giants Chelsea. The Spanish forward received a renewal offer from Barcelona but chose to accept Chelsea’s €6 million release clause.

Since making the move, Guiu has faced a tough start at Chelsea. Despite high expectations, he has struggled to make an impact, featuring in just four matches for a total of 168 minutes without scoring.

According to SPORT, Barcelona is monitoring his progress from a distance and is not surprised by Guiu’s difficulties in adapting to his new environment.

Marc Guiu has faced challenges in securing playing time at Chelsea. The situation has raised concerns for Barcelona regarding the risks of losing a player at just 18 years old for what seemed like a more appealing opportunity.

Chelsea has promised to integrate Guiu into the first team, yet manager Enzo Maresca has largely overlooked him.

In an interview with Barça One, club president Joan Laporta noted that Chelsea “bought Marc Guiu from us” by activating his €6 million release clause. He expressed no regrets about not making a more lucrative offer to keep the player, stating, “For me, a player who wants to leave Barça has the doors open.”

Barcelona is no longer worried about Guiu’s progress at Chelsea, stating, “He’ll find out for himself because there’s no place like Barça.” This message serves as a warning to youth academy players who may be tempted by offers from abroad.
