Modric asks Ancelotti to give Real Madrid’s talented star a greater chance to play in matches

Croatian star Luka Modric continues to make history at Real Madrid, the club with the most Champions League titles, after featuring in Saturday’s match against Celta Vigo in the 10th round of the 2024-2025 season.

At 39 years and 41 days old, Modric replaced Fede Valverde in the 63rd minute and played a key role in assisting the second goal for Brazilian forward Vinicius. This appearance made Modric the oldest player to represent Real Madrid, surpassing the previous record held by Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás.

According to the Spanish newspaper *AS*, Modric is concerned about the situation of his teammate Arda Güler under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti. The report indicates that Modric has urged Ancelotti to give Güler more opportunities, as the Turkish player has only played 47 minutes over Real Madrid’s last four matches.

The newspaper also noted that Ancelotti is not inclined to expand Güler’s role, preferring to limit his appearances to brief substitute roles during matches. This situation may push Güler closer to a potential departure in the upcoming transfer window, with several major European clubs monitoring his situation. If his playing time does not increase, his exit seems increasingly likely.
