Gary Lineker ‘advises’ Liverpool star to leave Anfield and join La Liga giants Barcelona
Gary Lineker has reportedly advised Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool and join his former team, Barcelona.
Liverpool has had a strong start to the Premier League season, winning seven of their first eight matches. Arne Slot, in his inaugural season as manager following Jurgen Klopp, has led the team to the top of the league.
Alexander-Arnold has provided two assists in ten matches across all competitions and is part of a defense that has only conceded three goals in the league this season. He is one of three key players, along with Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts expire at the end of the season.
While Van Dijk has indicated he is in talks for a new deal, Alexander-Arnold’s future appears less certain. Recent reports suggest he may leave Liverpool, with La Liga giants Real Madrid showing interest and claims of a “very strong possibility” he could transfer in January.
Spanish media have indicated that Alexander-Arnold is attracting interest from numerous clubs but has turned down all offers from Liverpool so far. Real Madrid seeks a reliable replacement for Dani Carvajal, while Barcelona is looking to sign the English defender at no cost.
Lineker has urged Alexander-Arnold to consider a move to Barcelona, believing the project under Hans-Dieter Flick is more appealing, despite potentially higher pay at Real Madrid.
Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey remains confident that Alexander-Arnold will eventually sign a new contract, emphasizing his deep connection to the club. Heskey stated, “Trent knows he can achieve all his ambitions at Liverpool,” highlighting the significance of playing for his boyhood club and the trophies he has won there.
