Xavi’s stance on Man Utd job confirmed as Erik ten Hag is finally sacked as Red Devils’ boss
Xavi Hernandez’s interest in his next job has been clarified amid rumors of a potential takeover at Manchester United following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.
His wife sparked excitement on social media by sharing a photo of Xavi and their son, who was wearing a Manchester United jersey.
The former Barcelona manager has been closely associated with the managerial position at United, which officially announced Ten Hag’s firing on Monday.
The Red Devils suffered a defeat against West Ham on Sunday and currently sit 14th in the Premier League after a poor start to the 2024-25 season.
There had been significant speculation regarding Ten Hag’s future, and United’s management finally chose to take action this week, with attention now shifting to possible replacements.
Xavi is considered a strong candidate for the managerial position, and just a day before Ten Hag’s dismissal was confirmed, his wife Nuria Cunillera shared a photo on her Instagram story of Xavi with their son.
In the picture, Xavi’s son is playing with football stickers while wearing a Manchester United jersey, fueling speculation that his father might be set to take over as manager.
Reports suggest that United has already initiated discussions with the Barcelona legend about succeeding Ten Hag.It’s important to note that Xavi isn’t the only manager linked to Manchester United, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is considering several other candidates for the role.
Currently, Xavi is rated at 8/1 by Ladbrokes to become the next permanent manager, trailing behind Ruud van Nistelrooy at 4/6 and Ruben Amorim at 4/1.
Since being dismissed by Barcelona in May, Xavi has been eager to return to management. Earlier in 2024, he indicated he would leave his position at Camp Nou but was convinced to stay by the club’s management.
Ultimately, however, it was decided he would depart after a challenging period, with Hansi Flick appointed as his successor.
Xavi was a key player in Barcelona’s legendary team for over a decade, winning eight La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies during his illustrious career at the club.
