BARCELONABarcelona will have to stump up €60-70 million for Lewandowski replacement target
Superstar Robert Lewandowski is performing exceptionally this season and is likely to secure the Pichichi Trophy, even with less than a third of the La Liga season completed.
However, by next season, he will be 37, prompting Barcelona to plan for the future and consider potential long-term replacements.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has his sights set on Erling Haaland from Manchester City, but due to anticipated challenges in acquiring him, the club is also exploring other options, including Viktor Gyokeres. The Sporting CP striker, who has been in excellent form since last season, is viewed as a possible successor to Lewandowski.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Gyokeres would cost around €60-70 million to transfer from Sporting CP. The 26-year-old Swede has already scored 14 goals in 14 games this season and is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool.
Gyokeres has a contract with Sporting until 2028, featuring a significant release clause of €100 million. However, there’s a gentleman’s agreement allowing for his sale if an offer of €60-70 million is made. While a transfer this winter isn’t likely, Gyokeres is expected to move in the summer of 2025.
Now that Barcelona knows the potential cost for the 26-year-old, it remains to be seen whether they will pursue him or consider other alternatives.
