Barcelona set sights on 22-year-old Premier League star for the summer of 2025
Barcelona is looking to acquire a young, talented goalkeeper for the summer transfer window of 2025. With Marc-André ter Stegen sidelined due to a serious injury, the club had to urgently sign retired Wojciech Szczesny to cover the position. However, Szczesny is anticipated to depart at the end of the season, prompting Barcelona to seek a long-term option.
A recent report from SPORT highlights Bart Verbruggen, Brighton’s 22-year-old Dutch goalkeeper, as a potential target. Verbruggen, who was signed by Brighton in 2023 for €20 million, has quickly established himself as a key player for both his club and the Netherlands. This season, he has made a notable impact in the Premier League, averaging 3.3 saves per 90 minutes and achieving two clean sheets in seven games.
Verbruggen’s contract with Brighton extends until 2028, but Barcelona considers him a more financially viable option than their primary target, Diogo Costa of Porto, who is valued at over €50 million—an amount that may be out of Barcelona’s budget.
Although Verbruggen is one of several potential candidates, the decision will largely hinge on Ter Stegen’s recovery and Iñaki Peña’s performance in the coming months. As the scouting process continues, Barcelona is actively seeking a long-term solution to strengthen their goalkeeping position for the future.
