Barcelona star ‘rejected’ £50m-a-year salary to leave Camp Nou
Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski reportedly turned down a €60 million (£50 million) annual offer from a Saudi Arabian club during the summer transfer window, choosing to stay at Barcelona instead. Since his arrival from Bayern Munich in July 2022, the 36-year-old striker has played 100 matches for the Catalan team, scoring 63 goals and providing 19 assists.
Last season, Lewandowski scored 26 goals and had 9 assists in 49 appearances. There were speculations about his future, especially with two years remaining on his contract plus an option for an additional year. Despite rumors that Barcelona might consider selling him, he swiftly rejected the lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.
This season, Lewandowski has continued to perform well, scoring four goals and assisting two in five La Liga matches. While some speculate he might consider a move to Saudi Arabia later in his career, his current form indicates he remains highly competitive.
Hansi Flick commended Lewandowski’s commitment, saying, “He works hard with the team and presses effectively. He’s fully dedicated and manages stress well. What a great player.”
