Flick surprises Barcelona star: You amazed me with your performance against Red Star
Barcelona secured a commanding 5-2 victory over Red Star Belgrade in Serbia on Wednesday, marking their fourth match in the Champions League group stage. The win brought Barcelona’s total points to 9, lifting them to sixth place and bringing them closer to securing a direct spot in the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Red Star remains pointless in the group.
According to *El Nacional*, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was pleased with the team’s dominant performance. The report highlighted that Flick singled out French defender Jules Koundé for his stellar contributions, including playing a key role in creating three of the goals.
Flick also praised Íñigo Martínez, acknowledging his strong performances and emphasizing that blocking Martínez’s transfer last summer was one of his best decisions since taking charge at Barcelona.
In an interesting note, Flick reportedly expressed concerns about Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, telling an assistant that de Jong has yet to fully earn his trust. Flick believes Dani Olmo, a Spanish player, would be a better fit for the starting lineup.
Despite the solid win, Flick expressed concern over Robert Lewandowski’s missed chances, even though the Polish striker netted twice. Flick warned Lewandowski that such misses could be costly in more important matches later in the season.
