Is Kylian Mbappé’s time at Real Madrid coming to an end? The club could reportedly pursue Viktor Gyökeres as the French forward is told he “isn’t performing” at Los Blancos.
Former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara suggests that Real Madrid should target Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres because of Kylian Mbappé’s underwhelming form.Viktor Gyökeres is making waves this season, with the Sporting striker enjoying a blistering start under coach Ruben Amorim. The Swedish forward has netted 23 goals in just 15 matches across all competitions, including a hat-trick against Manchester City in Sporting’s impressive 4-1 win. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé, the marquee signing for Real Madrid, has struggled in his role as the team’s number nine, leading former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara to suggest that the Spanish club should consider bringing in Gyökeres to address their offensive issues.
Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, O’Hara stated, “Any club in the world would want Viktor Gyökeres right now. He could end up at Real Madrid—they really need a centre-forward. Mbappé, after being signed from PSG, hasn’t delivered for them upfront. They’ve had a tough season.” O’Hara also praised Gyökeres’ playing style, comparing him to Erling Haaland, noting his physicality, athleticism, and fearlessness in taking on defenders. “He could go anywhere in Europe with the form he’s in,” O’Hara added.
Gyökeres has been linked with a January move, with multiple Premier League clubs reportedly interested in the former Brighton and Coventry striker. Manchester United, in particular, are said to be eyeing him, especially with Ruben Amorim expected to take charge of the struggling Red Devils. However, despite Real Madrid’s struggles, it seems unlikely that the club will consider a move for Gyökeres unless Mbappé’s form doesn’t improve.
O’Hara also discussed Manchester United’s situation, suggesting that if striker Rasmus Højlund doesn’t improve, they might look to sign a player like Gyökeres. He also reflected on how Brighton let the Swedish forward go for just £1 million, stating, “I can’t believe they got rid of him for so little. They’re known for getting their recruitment right, but that was a miss. He’s top class.”
