The player gave his word to Flick and rejected Bayern Munich’s offer in order to join Barcelona
Barcelona is currently experiencing its strongest period of the season, with standout performances and impressive results across both La Liga and the Champions League. The team sits atop the La Liga table with 33 points, 9 points ahead of second-place Real Madrid, though Madrid still has a match in hand.
According to *El Nacional*, Hansi Flick has secured an agreement with Jonathan Tah to join Barcelona at the start of next season. Tah, whose contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires in June, has already made it clear that he will not renew, turning down the club’s offers to extend his deal.
Despite being a key player for Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen and playing an important role in their victories in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and DFL-Supercup in 2024, Tah is eager for a new challenge. Bayern Munich showed strong interest in signing him last summer, but the move fell through. However, reports now suggest that Tah is close to finalizing a move to Barcelona.
Tah seems attracted to the opportunity to leave his comfort zone and join Flick’s project at Camp Nou. The deal has the full backing of Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, and sporting director Deco, who are actively working to secure the signing and stay ahead of other clubs in the race for his services.
Barcelona is in urgent need of defensive reinforcements, especially with Eric Garcia and Inigo Martinez likely to depart soon, while Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen’s contracts run until 2026. Although other clubs may be able to offer Tah higher wages, he has committed to joining Barcelona, meaning Bayer Leverkusen will likely lose him, and Bayern Munich will have to abandon their pursuit.
