Goodbye Lunin.. There will be a big signing next summer: Courtois’ replacement
The Real Madrid board is planning a significant change in the goalkeeper position with Andriy Lunin’s departure, despite his recent contract renewal. The club intends to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace him, a surprising decision considering the position was not seen as an area needing reinforcement. However, the club’s leadership is determined to secure a future number one for the team.
In line with their long-term strategy, Real Madrid has already begun preparing for the next season, focusing on strengthening their squad under Carlo Ancelotti. The goalkeeper position is particularly important in their plans.
Thibaut Courtois remains the club’s first-choice keeper, though he is sidelined with an injury, allowing Lunin to step in. Lunin signed a new contract this summer lasting until 2030, but his future could be uncertain if he seeks more playing time, especially with Courtois still the preferred option. As a result, the club is looking to bring in a young, promising goalkeeper to replace him.
According to *Defensa Central*, Real Madrid is eyeing 22-year-old Lucas Chevalier from Lille. Chevalier made an impression during a Champions League match against Madrid and has caught the attention of scout Juni Calafat, who sees him as a rising star. However, Real Madrid faces competition from other clubs, notably Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, who are also interested in signing him. Chevalier is valued at 25 million euros and is contracted with Lille until 2027.
