World class player refuses to join Bayern Munich and insists on moving to Barcelona
Canadian striker Jonathan David, who plays for French club Lille, has dealt a significant blow to Bayern Munich’s plans to sign him as a replacement for Harry Kane in the coming years. David’s contract with Lille is set to expire next June, and he has no intention of renewing it, which means he could leave for free at the end of the current season.
Recent reports suggested Bayern Munich was close to securing his signature, but Lille might consider selling him during the upcoming January transfer window rather than letting him go for nothing. Italian clubs Inter Milan and Juventus have also shown interest. However, David has expressed a strong preference for a move to Barcelona.
In comments to The Athletic, David revealed that playing for Barcelona has been a dream of his since childhood, as he has supported the club from a young age. He noted, “Barcelona is the team I have supported since I was young, and when you grow up supporting a team, playing for it is a dream.”
David also mentioned the challenges of switching teams mid-season, saying it’s more difficult than joining at the start of the season, when there’s time to get acquainted with teammates and adapt. This could make it easier for Barcelona to pursue him, taking into account both the financial aspects and the possibility of signing him in January.
