In October, SPORT reported that Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain are all showing interest in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Although de Jong is dedicated to Barcelona, PSG’s track record of signing players from the Catalan club keeps them as a possible destination for him next summer.
PSG has strengthened their midfield in recent years with additions like Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz, and João Neves. Furthermore, journalist Ferran Correas recently suggested that Barcelona may be open to selling de Jong in the upcoming transfer window.
A Bundesliga club is now emerging as a potential suitor for de Jong. Fichajes reported on Wednesday that Borussia Dortmund have become an unexpected contender for the Dutch midfielder. The report highlights that Dortmund are interested in signing players who can elevate their squad for both Bundesliga and Champions League challenges.
Similarly, the same outlet recently noted that Liverpool is considering de Jong as a potential replacement. Given Barcelona’s financial struggles and de Jong’s high wages, approximately £300,000 per week, the club may be willing to sell if the right offer comes in.
De Jong’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, and although he hasn’t yet signed an extension, the club may consider selling him in the future. The report doesn’t specify a price, but Transfermarkt values him at €60 million.
