Diego Simeone makes tempting offer to Barcelona star, promises him a place in Atletico Madrid’s starting lineup
Atletico Madrid is reportedly close to securing the signing of a new Barcelona star, following in the footsteps of previous high-profile transfers such as Luis Suarez, David Villa, and Antoine Griezmann. These players joined the team at significant costs and became key figures in Diego Simeone’s squads. This pattern was recently repeated with Memphis Depay, although it didn’t go as planned, and with Clement Lenglet, who has now become an essential player, with Atletico aiming to keep him permanently in 2025.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Atletico Madrid is now focusing on Fermín López, who has caught their attention with his impressive ability to work and position himself in the attacking area, making him a perfect fit for Simeone’s tactical approach.
Last season, López was one of La Liga and Europe’s standout performers, becoming a regular in Xavi Hernandez’s squad. However, his role has drastically diminished following Hansi Flick’s arrival as Barcelona’s coach and the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old forward’s playing time has significantly decreased, and if this continues, it could hinder his development at Barcelona.
With his future uncertain, especially with Barcelona considering further midfield signings in the summer, Fermín has started contemplating a move away. Despite renewing his contract recently after discussions with Joan Laporta and Deco, he is unwilling to stay as a backup player.
Fermín has already attracted offers from top clubs like Juventus, Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa. In this competitive scenario, Atletico Madrid has entered the race, with Simeone eager to persuade the Spanish talent to move to Madrid next year.
