Florentino Pérez finds a quality left-back in France: “He has been approached for
Alphonso Davies, the Canadian left-back who is close to renewing his contract with Bayern Munich, may no longer be a top target for Real Madrid. The club, which was aiming to sign him on a free transfer next summer, has shifted its attention to a French player.
After a difficult start to the season, Real Madrid has regained its form, with Kylian Mbappé returning to his best and scoring consistently. Vinicius Junior remains in outstanding form, Rodrygo Goes is regaining his top level, and Jude Bellingham is back to scoring goals.
This improved performance was evident in their recent Intercontinental Cup win against Pachuca FC, with the attacking trio of Rodrygo, Mbappé, and Vinicius contributing 32 goals and 16 assists together.
Despite the team’s strong showing, Florentino Pérez and the management are already looking ahead, focusing on potential signings for the end of the season.
The left-back position is a priority, as Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia have performed well but haven’t fully convinced. Real Madrid had previously been interested in Davies, whose contract with Bayern expires in June, but Bayern is working to extend his deal, prompting Real Madrid to refocus.
As a result, Théo Hernandez, the French left-back at AC Milan, has emerged as a key alternative. Hernandez, who has been outstanding for Milan in recent seasons, will also be a free agent at the end of the season, and reports suggest that Real Madrid has already contacted his representatives.
Hernandez, who played for Madrid from 2017 to 2019, is now considered a strong candidate if the Davies deal falls through.
With Real Madrid’s strategy of signing free agents gaining momentum, the club is expected to make major moves in the transfer market in 2025, especially once free agents are able to negotiate with other clubs in January
