Premier League giants want to sign Lionel Messi on six-month loan deal; David Beckham will not block transfer:
Reports suggest that Premier League giants are eyeing Lionel Messi for a six-month loan deal in the upcoming January transfer window. With the MLS offseason underway and the 2025 campaign not set to start until February, Messi could make a temporary move to England to help an old mentor and manager.
According to Tuttosport (via Hindustan Times), the Argentine superstar, who was outstanding for Inter Miami last season with 23 goals and 13 assists in 25 appearances, may be heading to Manchester City.
City have struggled this season, particularly following Rodri’s ACL injury, and are currently in sixth place in the Premier League, with just one win in their last 12 games across all competitions.
Despite their ongoing midfield issues, Pep Guardiola, who had a highly successful spell with Messi at Barcelona, is reportedly interested in bringing the 2022 World Cup winner to the Etihad Stadium to help turn things around.
The two shared a highly successful period at Barcelona, winning 14 trophies, including three La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies.
David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, is reportedly not opposed to Messi’s temporary move, which could give the player an opportunity to play in the Premier League during the MLS offseason.
In related news, Inter Miami recently traded Leonardo Campana to MLS rivals New England Revolution for a record $2.5 million in General Allocation Money. Campana had a solid 2024 season, scoring nine goals and adding two assists in 35 appearances, but was overshadowed by Luis Suarez in the starting lineup. Messi, on the other hand, broke the all-time top scorer record for the Herons last season.
