Laporta Prepares a Bomb for Frenkie De Jong: The Formula to Make Him Disappear
In recent years, Barça has gone to great lengths to find a way to move Frenkie De Jong away from Camp Nou, but the Dutch midfielder has consistently refused to leave the club.
The Two Highest-Paid Players on the Team De Jong is the second-highest-paid player at Barça, with only Robert Lewandowski earning more. Lewandowski earns a gross salary of 33 million, while De Jong receives 23 million fixed, plus an additional two million in bonuses.
Joan Laporta wants both players out of the club to manage an unsustainable wage bill.
Both players agreed to receive deferred payments for the last years of their contracts, which is why their current earnings reflect this arrangement.
Lewandowski is a Starter, While Frenkie is on the Bench At least Lewandowski plays regularly, scores goals, and makes an impact both in the league and in prestigious awards like the Ballon d’Or. On the other hand, De Jong’s situation is troubling. Not only does he not play, but he’s also not even a top choice for rotation. He didn’t even make an appearance in the game against Leganés.
This means that De Jong is essentially expendable from a sporting standpoint, and his absence wouldn’t affect the team’s plans.
From a financial perspective, De Jong has already been amortized after six seasons at Barça, and Laporta is prepared to act decisively.
The Failed Chelsea Deal Laporta has tried to include De Jong in several transfer deals, hoping his departure could help bring in valuable players. The latest attempt involved offering De Jong and Ferran Torres in exchange for Enzo Fernández, but the deal fell through. The main reason was De Jong’s refusal to leave Barça. He has built a new mansion and isn’t planning on leaving before 2027.
Now, Laporta’s last resort may be to offer De Jong a free transfer, freeing up space on the wage bill and allowing him to go wherever he wishes, with Laporta keeping any transfer fees for himself.
Laporta’s frustration has reached a point where he’s willing to let De Jong go for free rather than continue dealing with him, especially since De Jong wasn’t a signing made by Laporta.
