Man Utd could take giant step closer to Dani Olmo signing TODAY as deadline revealed

Manchester United’s chances of signing Dani Olmo on a free transfer from Barcelona could receive a significant boost on Friday, according to reports in Spain.

Olmo’s future has been widely discussed recently, with reports suggesting he may leave Barcelona in January, just months after joining the club.

The 50 million-pound transfer from RB Leipzig was signed in the summer, but due to Barcelona’s financial struggles, Olmo could only be temporarily registered until the end of the year.

Barcelona was able to register him under the La Liga salary cap after Andreas Christensen’s long-term injury, which allowed them to reallocate 80% of the injured player’s salary for a new signing.

Olmo’s temporary contract ends on December 31, and if the Spanish football federation continues to block his registration for the second half of the season, he could leave as a free agent.

Barcelona has taken legal action against La Liga, and reports from SPORT (via the Daily Mail) suggest that a court ruling is expected on Friday to decide whether Olmo and fellow summer signing Pau Victor can play in the upcoming season.

The Commercial Court of Barcelona heard arguments from both Barcelona and La Liga last Monday, with La Liga insisting that the club must generate more revenue to register the players and comply with financial rules.

Barcelona hopes that a contract to sell VIP seats at the Nou Camp, valued at 166 million pounds (€200 million), will allow them to register Olmo and Victor by the January 1 deadline.

If the court rules against Barcelona, both Olmo and Victor may leave the club.

Although Olmo’s main goal has been to stay at Barcelona, the uncertainty surrounding his contract has led his agent, Andy Bara, to explore other options, according to the Mail.

Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal have all expressed interest, and Bara was seen in Manchester earlier this week. He later told the Mail that he was there on “holidays.”Bara, who owns Niagara Sports Company – one of the world’s largest agencies – represents several top players, including Olmo and Spain captain Alvaro Morata. He also played a key role in Josko Gvardiol’s £77 million transfer from RB Leipzig to Manchester City in 2023.

It remains to be seen if Olmo will make a similar move to the Premier League next month.
