Former Barcelona star ready to pay out of his own pocket to return but Hansi Flick refuses
A professional footballer is facing difficulties in the Saudi Professional League after his recent transfer, expressing a desire to leave and return to Europe. Despite earning a substantial salary, he longs for life in Europe, particularly in Spain, where he feels a deep connection. He is actively seeking opportunities to return to his previous club, amid growing speculation about his future, with some coaches rejecting the idea of re-signing him.
According to Spanish newspaper El Nacional, João Cancelo has expressed his intention to leave the Saudi league soon, just months after his transfer. Despite the financial rewards, he is unhappy in Saudi Arabia and misses Europe, especially Spain, where he always felt at home. His primary goal was to stay at Barcelona.
While his single season at Barcelona was challenging due to the club’s instability, he earned the respect of fans and teammates. He quickly became an important part of Xavi Hernandez’s squad, playing as a right or left back. However, despite efforts from Joan Laporta, Barcelona was unable to secure a permanent deal for him.
The club couldn’t meet Manchester City’s asking price, and eventually abandoned their pursuit of Cancelo, who had waited until the last moment to make his decision.
Now, Cancelo is willing to contribute financially to facilitate his departure from Saudi Arabia and has reached out to Deco about a potential return to Barcelona. His agent, Jorge Mendes, has also presented Cancelo as an option, believing that he could be a valuable addition to the team, especially with doubts surrounding Alejandro Balde’s form and a lack of reliable alternatives to Jules Koundé.
However, unlike Xavi Hernandez, who appreciated Cancelo’s versatility and talent, Germany’s national team coach Hansi Flick is not interested in the player. Flick is unwilling to engage with Cancelo due to his problematic personality, which has caused issues throughout his career, including his departure from Manchester City following a fallout with Pep Guardiola.
