Second Liverpool player ‘wants to come’ to Spain as Real Madrid near Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer
Trent Alexander-Arnold may not be the only Liverpool player potentially moving to Spain in the near future, as per recent reports.
Real Madrid have targeted England international Trent Alexander-Arnold as their top transfer priority, especially with captain and current right-back Dani Carvajal out due to an ACL injury.
Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires in the summer, seemed to respond to rumors from Spain about a potential free transfer to the 15-time European champions with his celebration after scoring against West Ham on December 29.
On New Year’s Eve, Paul Joyce of The Times reported that Real Madrid had approached Liverpool for a potential January move. However, Liverpool quickly rejected the offer, providing little encouragement.
Real Madrid is said to be willing to pay £20 million to buy out the remaining six months of Alexander-Arnold’s contract.
Meanwhile, another Liverpool player is reportedly attracting interest from Spain. Barcelona had targeted Luis Diaz during the summer as they sought to strengthen their attack, but a deal never materialized. Diaz has since been in outstanding form for both the Premier League and Champions League leaders, with 12 goals across all competitions.
However, according to Sport, Barcelona continues to monitor Diaz’s situation, with sporting director Deco being a strong admirer of the Colombian. Despite his success at Anfield, Diaz is said to be somewhat dissatisfied with his current situation, as his representatives are unhappy with the lack of progress in improving his contract. The report suggests that Diaz is keen on a move and, after being unable to finalize a transfer last summer, Barcelona are optimistic about securing his services, believing he could be the key addition they need to make a significant leap.
Rafael Leao, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Nico Williams have also been mentioned as potential targets, but Luis Diaz remains the top priority for Deco and Barcelona.
Diaz’s contract runs until 2027, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool is not concerned about the situation.
“In August, some top clubs showed interest in him. It was never close, but there were clubs ready to make a move and try to make something happen,” Romano said on his YouTube channel in November.
“Richard Hughes and Arne Slot spoke with Luis Diaz, outlining the new project. They introduced him to the direction they wanted the club to take for both the present and future, emphasizing that he could be a key part of those plans.”
Liverpool is reportedly eager to negotiate a new deal with Diaz, so it remains to be seen how things will unfold.
