Barcelona ‘will go to court’ over Dani Olmo registration issue as La Liga make final decision

La Liga have made their final decision over Dani Olmo’s Barcelona registration.

Olmo, who transferred to Barcelona from RB Leipzig for £51 million last summer, was initially registered as a special exemption for the first half of the season due to the club’s inability to meet La Liga’s wage cap restrictions.

However, a court recently rejected Barcelona’s attempt to re-register Olmo, with both La Liga and the Spanish Federation jointly deciding on the matter.

According to Fabrizio Romano, La Liga and the Spanish Federation have denied Olmo’s registration for Barcelona following extensive discussions. As a result, he will be unable to play for the club for the remainder of the season.

The 26-year-old has made 11 league appearances this season, scoring five goals, but will not add to his tally this campaign due to the failure to complete his La Liga registration.

Barcelona plans to appeal the decision in court, and a successful appeal could make the attacking midfielder available for Hansi Flick this season. Olmo’s teammate, Pau Victor, has also not been registered.

Olmo has been linked with a move away from Barcelona due to his registration issues, with Manchester United reportedly monitoring the situation. However, the player’s agent, Andy Bara, has dismissed any transfer speculation.

When asked about the links to Manchester United, Bara told Give Me Sport, “To be honest, I feel calm. It could feel strange, but I believe in [Barcelona] president Laporta, Deco, and I feel they will find a solution for Dani. It’s a massive club.”

He added, “We are not negotiating with any club. Dani is a Barcelona player, and he wants to stay at Barcelona. He has made a huge effort to be here. It was his long-time desire.”

Bara concluded, “Barcelona is the first and last option! Dani, his father, family, and I are not considering any other options.”
