Jorge Mendes offers the team’s star player to Premier League clubs to get him out of Barcelona despite being a key player under Flick

Agent Jorge Mendes recently held discussions in London and Milan regarding the transfer of a Barcelona player, once seen as a crucial part of Hansi Flick’s plans but whose performances have failed to impress. According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Alejandro Balde, who has been heavily criticized this season, is still not meeting expectations—similar to the previous year when he lost his starting role.

Xavi Hernandez had given Balde the chance to prove himself in the first team, opting for him over more experienced players like Jordi Alba and Marcos Alonso. Balde responded with strong performances, emerging as one of the best full-backs globally and a key figure in the team’s future. However, he has struggled with consistency, with last season already seeing him criticized. Injuries have further hindered his progress, as he has been sidelined multiple times, a situation that continues into this season.

At Barcelona, there is growing frustration over his lack of development, with Balde still holding his starting position mainly due to the underperformance of his backup, Gerard Martin. Meanwhile, Hansi Flick seems unconvinced by Balde, urging Joan Laporta and Deco to explore options for a specialist left-back. Names like Alphonso Davies, potentially available on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, and David Raum from RB Leipzig have been suggested. Barcelona may even consider selling Balde if they receive an attractive offer that could generate substantial funds.

Mendes has already initiated talks with interested European clubs, with Barcelona setting an asking price of approximately 50 million euros. Milan and Arsenal are the frontrunners, having begun initial negotiations. If the clubs meet the asking price, a deal could be finalized soon.
