Because of Bellingham and Guler, Florentino Perez decided to stop the process of signing a world-class player
The year 2025 has begun for Real Madrid with no break in sight, as the team faces a challenging test in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Mallorca next Thursday.
Despite the tough challenges ahead, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad has made a strong start to the year, fully aware of the difficulty in replicating past successes. Club president Florentino Pérez recently commented, “It’s tough to match what we’ve achieved, but we’ll continue to fight for more titles. We began the season with two trophies, and we are focused on competing in both the league and the Champions League, as well as other titles.”
Pérez’s remarks suggest the club will remain ambitious and continue to strive for more achievements in the current and future seasons. This explains why Pérez and sporting director José Ángel Sánchez are considering the transfer market, even though Ancelotti had previously stated that discussions about January signings are not easy.
Ancelotti remarked earlier, “We’ll see, that’s all I can say. We have many matches in January, and we are focused on those for now. Talking about transfers isn’t simple at the moment, and it’s not the right time. I’m happy with the team I have, and we always find a way to overcome challenges.”
Nevertheless, according to Spanish newspaper *Defensa Central*, the club’s sports department is already planning for the 2025-26 season and is eyeing potential signings. Players like Alphonso Davies, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Martin Zubimendi, and Florian Wirtz have all been linked with the club.
Wirtz, who was considered a possible addition to strengthen Madrid’s midfield following Toni Kroos’ departure, may no longer be a priority due to the current squad’s balance, especially after the absence of the legendary German player. In fact, Madrid does not see a place for Wirtz at present, despite his talent and popularity, as players like Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler already bring similar qualities. Additionally, Wirtz’s high asking price, potentially over 100 million euros, is another hurdle for Pérez and Sánchez.
