Bayern Munichโs sporting director, Christoph Freund, has provided a key update on Joshua Kimmichโs future, despite the midfielder being heavily pursued by top European clubs. Freund expressed confidence that Kimmich, whose current contract expires in June, will sign a new deal to stay at Bayern Munich.
Since joining Bayern in 2015, Kimmich has become a central figure for the club, playing a pivotal role in their success. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively has made him a target for elite teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
Freundโs comments came following Bayernโs 2-1 win over Freiburg, where Kimmich played a crucial role, including delivering the corner kick leading to the winning goal. Freund emphasized his belief that Kimmich will remain loyal to the club, stating, โIโm positive that Joshua will ultimately decide to continue playing for FC Bayern.โ
Kimmich, 29, has been a regular starter this season, appearing in all 18 Bundesliga matches and contributing consistently, even though he played right-back against Freiburg. Despite rumors surrounding his contract, Kimmich has largely ignored speculation, indicating frustration with the constant media questioning. After the Freiburg match, he stated, โI made a relatively clear statement two weeks ago. Thereโs no change in the situation now. To be honest, I canโt stand up every three days and give you an update.โ
Though Kimmichโs future is uncertain, Bayern remains determined to keep him. His departure would leave a significant void, both on the field and financially. The prospect of him leaving for free would be a major opportunity for the clubs interested in him, who view his leadership and experience as invaluable.
As Bayern fans await updates on Kimmichโs future, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the midfielder stays or moves to one of the many clubs vying for his signature
