Liverpool receive huge Trent Alexander-Arnold boost after shock Real Madrid transfer update

Liverpool have received an unexpected boost in their chances of retaining Trent Alexander-Arnold at the club beyond the summer, as Real Madrid identifies a new right-back target.

Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold has been clear in recent months, particularly as they seek to replace the injured Dani Carvajal.

With Alexander-Arnold’s contract set to expire at the end of the season and Liverpool experiencing a transition after Jurgen Klopp, this could be the perfect time for him to consider a move.

His strong bond with Jude Bellingham is also significant, as international teammates often influence one another’s transfer decisions.

However, in an unexpected turn, Madrid appears to be redirecting their attention to another possible replacement for the 32-year-old Carvajal.

Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg reports that Madrid is “monitoring the situation” of Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

The 23-year-old right wing-back is contracted to the Bundesliga club until 2028 but reportedly has a release clause of around £33 million.

Frimpong has a similar profile to Alexander-Arnold, with a greater emphasis on attacking rather than defensive play.

Having established himself as one of Europe’s emerging talents, signing Frimpong for £33 million would be seen as a smart move.

Still, acquiring Liverpool’s star right-back for free may be an even more appealing option, especially given his proven record of world-class performances compared to Frimpong.

Alexander-Arnold addressed his contract uncertainty last month as the Madrid rumors surfaced. “I want to be a Liverpool player this season at the very least,” he expressed.

He underscored that any developments would be handled privately and respectfully, stating, “I’ve been at the club for 20 years now. I’ve signed four or five contract extensions, and none of those were public. This one won’t be either.”

Despite the speculation, the 26-year-old has stayed focused, displaying his abilities for England in their recent victory over Finland, where he scored a remarkable long-range free-kick.
