Barcelona monitors the signing of the expected Real Madrid deal

Barcelona is reportedly trying to secure a deal that is expected to go to their rival, Real Madrid, in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

As Barcelona prepares for their La Liga match against Real Madrid in the eleventh round, following their game against Sevilla at Montjuïc Stadium next Sunday, the paper highlights the club’s strong interest in signing Canadian defender Alphonso Davies.

Real Madrid is also interested in Davies, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires next summer, aiming to acquire him for free. The report notes that Hansi Flick, a key supporter of bringing Davies to the team, values the player highly, particularly since he thrived under Flick’s coaching at Bayern Munich.

The report also noted that Barcelona is keeping an eye on players whose contracts will expire at the end of the season, seeking free transfers due to the financial struggles of Joan Laporta’s administration, with Davies among those targets.

Davies appeared on the cover alongside Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen, whose contract also ends next June.

Convincing Davies to choose Barcelona over Real Madrid will be challenging, especially given the long-standing interest the Merengues have in the 23-year-old.
