Liverpool has rejected Real Madrid’s attempt to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window.

Liverpool has rejected an approach from Real Madrid regarding a potential transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold in January.

The Spanish club, which has been linked to the Reds’ right-back for some time, was initially expected to wait until the summer to pursue him, when his contract expires and he could join on a free transfer. However, with starting right-back Dani Carvajal out for the season, Real Madrid reportedly reached out to Liverpool on New Year’s Eve to inquire about signing Alexander-Arnold as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Liverpool, however, made it clear they have no plans to sell the player during this window, firmly rejecting Real Madrid’s inquiry. The club is committed to keeping the influential defender for the rest of the season as they aim for Premier League success under Arne Slot.

It’s unclear if Madrid’s approach included a financial offer, but Liverpool is not willing to pursue further discussions and is preparing for the second half of the season with Alexander-Arnold in the squad.

Although Liverpool has shut down any January move, the 26-year-old can begin negotiating with foreign clubs about a summer transfer from January 1 onward, and Liverpool anticipates Real Madrid may try to take advantage of this opportunity.

Negotiations for a contract renewal between Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold’s representatives have been ongoing for months.

Recently, Spanish media outlet Marca claimed that Alexander-Arnold had decided to join Real Madrid once his contract expires and had informed Liverpool. However, sources close to Liverpool deny any such communication.

The speculation grew after Alexander-Arnold scored in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, which extended their Premier League lead to eight points. His “talking” celebration seemed to reflect frustration with media rumors about his future.

When asked about his celebration and future plans after the match, Alexander-Arnold smiled and declined to comment. Liverpool is now focused on their upcoming match against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
